Allegedly drunk hit-and-run driver kills two

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can pose a serious threat to the driver; he could face significant jail time and the loss of driving privileges. An impaired driver is also a serious threat to other drivers.

In a recent Indianapolis motor vehicle accident, a pickup truck driver who is believed to have been intoxicated crashed into a car, killing both occupants.

According to Indianapolis police, a pickup truck was heading east on 38th Street when the driver failed to obey a red traffic light. The truck crashed into the side of a northbound vehicle on the cross street. The driver of the automobile and his passenger were both killed in the collision. After the truck came to a stop, the driver attempted to flee police on foot, but he was apprehended after he had run for about a block. A fourth person was injured when he was hit by debris flying out of the bed of the pickup.

The driver of the pickup truck has been charged with two counts of causing death while operating a motor vehicle and two counts of leaving the scene. The man is also facing prior charges for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

The truck driver's previous offenses may not affect civil claims made against him by the survivors of the two persons who were killed, but he appears virtually certain to be found at fault for the two deaths. Anyone who has lost a loved one in a motor vehicle accident may wish to consult an experienced personal injury attorney for an evaluation of the evidence and estimate of the likelihood of recovering damages for lost economic support and loss of comfort and companionship.
